AMOROUS
adj. expressing romantic/sexual desire About the Word:Even though I've rated AMOROUS as 'not suitable for all ages', it just might be. Yes, AMOROUS means 'expressing sexual desire', but it's the really sweet and PG kind. Now, if you were to use the word SALACIOUS, then things are totally different.
Kids are exposed to AMOROUS cartoons all the time. The protagonist meets someone (usually of the opposite gender) in the beginning of the story. These strangers become friends, and by the end of the story they have AMOROUS feelings for one another. It's not always about sex. Yeesh. Vocab Teaching Tip #3:Teach students how to dissect words into PREFIXES, ROOTS, and SUFFIXES.
Don't just have them memorize long lists of Latin and Greek words. First of all, that's just boring. Second, it doesn't teach a skill (only rote memorization). If your goal is for students to understand words on a complex level, then have them follow Step #1 of TingoEd's vocabulary system. |
